While my hipster gently weeps

There is nothing more tragic to a hipster than when that miniscule melange of culture they have deemed appropriate suddenly becomes mainstream. Here is a joke to illustrate my point: Do you know how the hipster burned their tongue eating pizza? She ate it before it was cool. Let that digest (so punny today!!!)

It's true, the only way to define the undefinable non-culture called hipsterism is anything not mainstream. They are so nontrendy they are apparently becoming trendy. The hipsters were not careful enough. They reused and overdid a couple of trends (indie bands, thrift shop random clothing and film cameras) so much that they have become recognizable. And copiable. This may be why today's newest look among us young folk is the folksy, urban outfitter overdosed hipster look. Fedoras, wrinkled shirts, huge glasses, a plethora of high-waisted pants/skirts (yeah for lists buying time to collect thoughts!), old timesy flouncy blousy blouses, and a super old minolta hanging jauntily along with all their other kitschy jewelry... it's become quite the style. There are a number of reasons why we would dress this way:
1) the Y2K generation has realized that all the recognizable decade trends have already happened and in a hasty effort we have exploded from trying to combine them all together (re: 90s hair, 50s skirt, 60s hippy blouse/drug use, 80s socks...etc.) Combining them all in such a random fashion is about as hipster as you can get.
2) the Y2K generation hasn't realized anything except that this is now the way to dress... so they're dressing like this. SO NOT HIPSTER.
3) the Y2K generation has adopted a non-style that therefore embraces ALL styles and therefore anything they could possibly want to wear in a non-judgmental way. ex. "why are you wearing pink leather overalls?" "because it's not yet mainstream" "true dat"
4) the Y2K generation finds the tummy hiding boy shirts and sexy short bottoms to be flattering. I mean, truth.

Have you not caught onto this? It's alright. This trend is slowly snowballing from all the cool parts of America and I'm sure it will slowly trickle down to all those others places. Catch on before it's mainstream and therefore dies!

What to wear: anything thrift store, urban outfitters, free people, your mom's clothes
ex. long hippy dresses, short flouncy dresses, only high-waisted pants/skirts, tribal prints in a controlled fashion, lots and lots of accessories, beaded kindergarten style bracelets, any of your brother's clothing. go crazy!

Topshop Striped Tee, High Waisted Shorts, Red Bowler Hat

Music: this is an important component of hipster culture. music must be unknown. already qualified indie music: yeah yeah yeahs, bright eyes, she&him,  modest mouse, fleetwood mac, iron and wine, and also anything else that can be liked ironically (willow smith, avril lavigne, etc.)

Enjoy the non-conforming style while it lasts!
